Welcome to The Academy
The MGL Academy's ethos is simple. The idea is to use creative subjects and professional specialists to help teach all the elements of the primary and secondary curriculum. Whether that be using Music to teach ICT; Cookery to teach Literacy; Art to teach Maths or using any of our other specialisms to support school topic based learning. The Academy team are here to support schools with a cross curricular creative approach in the classroom. Although, for example, there is nothing wrong with having a dance/drama session for it's own sake, if that can also help support subjects and topics children are learning in the classroom, the activity instantly becomes more valuable for the school and the pupils involved.
Since embarking on this new venture one indisputable fact has become clear after speaking to all the Headteachers, Classroom Teachers and Governors of schools across the region: Pupil's learn more if they are enjoying themselves...
This is the simple rule that the MGL Academy keeps at the forefront of it’s mind when putting together any project involving one of our specialist consultants. No matter in what subject the school requires support , or whatever the specialism of our member of staff, engagement of the pupils is the key factor in what we do. Using creativity as a backdrop we hope that we always encourage the learning of new skills, whilst also showing pupils that there are other (and sometimes surprising!) ways of learning traditional school subjects.
From our point of view this really is a tremendous activity – determining imaginative ways to link Music, Art, Dance, Scriptwriting, Joinery, Cookery, Journalism etc. to the curriculum and above all having a great time in class is not a bad way to spend your day! Judging by the response and experiences we have had in schools so far, it appears that this kind of teaching and philosophy adds a colour to the classroom that attracts both pupils and teachers alike.
Long may it continue!
